DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY MARCH 4
1.32 SOUTHWELL
ROARING ROB has struck a real chord since switching his attentions to today’s course and following a deserved victory over the C&D last time, Michael Dods’ gelding looks in a good place to repeat the dose.
Campaigned over six furlongs during the first part of the winter, the step up to seven instantly brought about a big improvement in the six-year-old’s performance levels here back in January and following another solid effort the time after, he duly went one place better last time out.
Settling nicely in behind the pace 27 days ago, the son of Roaring Lion eased his way into a challenging position turning for home and he sustained his run all the way to the line, eventually pulling clear to the tune of a length.
According to the post race data, he usurped his previous best figure at the Midland venue and with another potentially well-run affair on the cards courtesy of Heretic and How’s The Guvnor being in the line-up, everything should set up nicely for another positive outcome.
ROARING ROB – 1-point win@7-2
7.30 KEMPTON
Easily the most interesting race on the card in terms of progressive horses going forward and SPARKSMITH is fancied to make some sort of impact in his first attempt at this level.
James Ferguson’s inmate caught the eye on his debut at Lingfield and since then he’s gradually improved, culminating with a smooth victory at Wolverhampton last time out.
What might have appeared a mandatory success visually was backed up by a smart speed figure to suggest otherwise, and he comes across as a colt that could keep on improving.
SPARKSMITH – 1-point each-way@9-2
