DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY MAY 20
6.50 GOWRAN
STAYWITHERJOHNNY is still awaiting her first victory after seven starts but there was plenty to like about the way she ran over today’s C&D last time out and Ciaran Murphy’s filly deserves a degree of loyalty to see whether she can replicate the same levels of performance back to the scene of that improved display.
Like all the field 15 days ago, the daughter of Phoenix Of Spain faced a tough task trying to live with the well-treated Majestic King at the Kenny circuit and although she came up short on the day, her effort in finishing a never-nearer third was a big step in the right direction.
Moreover, her closing three-furlong split time of 36.0 was only 0.2 slower than the impressive winner, and with seemingly nothing of the calibre of the winner that day in tonight’s field, the pathway should be clear for her to final get off the mark.
STAYWITHERJOHNNY – 1-point each-way@5-1 (five places)
7.40 YARMOUTH
KAMAWAY benefitted from a well-run affair when scooting away with the prize over today’s C&D last time out and there appears no logical reason to desert Eve Johnston Houghton’s filly on her return visit.
Having her first start on turf, the daughter of Kameko was dropped out towards the rear at the seaside venue, clearly keen not to engage with the strong early pace and those conservative tactics paid off, as she came sweeping through the field to lead at the furlong pole before striding out to a comfortable three length victory.
Unsurprisingly, given the nature of the gallop, she posted a very smart speed figure for a horse rated 60 and he way she hit the line, you would be hard pressed not to say there will not be more improvement to come.
Clearly, she has last Friday’s Newbury winner, Tilani, to beat, but the fact she is proven at today’s track on rain-softened ground tilts the advantages in her favour and at the morning prices, she rates a solid each-way alternative to the favourite.
KAMAWAY – 1-point each-way@4-1
