DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

SUNDAY MAY 31

3.50 LISTOWEL

Straight Up has the highest rating of this field but at the same time, he has failed to beat a single horse home in both his two starts so far this season and preference is for SATOYAMA who could easily prove to be the best of seven runner’s long term.

Joseph O’Brien’s colt had showed promise in a decent maiden on his debut at Gowran and on returning to the Kenny venue, he made no mistake second time around, quickening up quite smartly to pull readily clear.

Posting a useful speed figure for good measure, the son of Alson readily beat a horse who went on to frank the form in some style at the same track next time and providing he can cope with going in an anticlockwise direction, this promising three-year-old will take some stopping.

SATOYAMA – 2-point win@5-2

4.55 NOTTINGHAM

SHADY BAY improved her course record to two wins in three starts when making a successful return to the fray here last month and with that run likely to have brought her forward both mentally and physically, Tom Ward’s mare receives the vote of confidence in her bid to further enhance her stats.

The five-year-old mare won with a degree of authority on her first outing for 174 days at her happy hunting ground and it came as something of a surprise to see her only nudged up from 69 to 74 in the ratings.

Granted, today’s race represents a much more difficult task – her first foray into Class 3 company – but such is her affinity for the C&D, hopefully she can rise to the occasion.

SHADY BAY – 1-point each-way@11-2 (three places)
