DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 19
2.33 SEDGEFIELD
SPIKE JONES has been keeping good company so far this season and this significant drop in grade looks a decent opportunity for Sam Drinkwater’s gelding to capitalise.
Bizarrley, his best effort according to the figures came when he could only manage seventh in an extremely well contested handicap at Windsor two starts ago and the point was proven when runner-up, Lud’or, went on to land a Grade 2 at Haydock last weekend.
Since then, the nine-year-old himself did the same form no harm with a more than respectable effort in a similar race behind Sandown specialist Henry The Second, and considering where he was at halfway, he did extremely well under the circumstances.
A close-up third in a competitive Class 2 contest at Cheltenham earlier in the season, he was just nutted by a Sean Bowen special at Lingfield on his previous outing and now racing off a lower mark, if you consider his amateur’s claim, it would come as something of a surprise if the son of Walk In The Park fluffs his lines completely at Class 4 level.
