DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 20
3.35 WARWICK
Goolagong sprung a 50-1 shock when scoring at Kempton recently, but the speed figure produced by George Baker’s inmate suggests there was no fluke about the performance and SAGE GREEN, who kept on best of the rest to be an honourable runner-up, is fancied to be the second horse to fly the flag from the race in question.
Swinging London (beaten 19 lengths), was the first to point towards the form of the race at the Sunbury venue to be a reliable source when he ran well from an unpromising position at Carlisle earlier in the week and Syd Hosie’s inmate, three places ahead of him, can hopefully do just as well over a C&D where he was successful in the past.
Prior to his improved effort 18 days ago, the six-year-old had undergone wind surgery to correct something that was clearly holding him back and on the evidence of his display in that well-run affair, a certain degree of confidence can be instilled in him going forward.
A decent fifth in a hot handicap at Cheltenham earlier in the campaign, even a run of that magnitude would be good enough to see him feature in today’s weaker affair and the fact he has won here before is just an added bonus.
SAGE GREEN – ½ point each-way@6-1 (four places)
5.45 DUNDALK
Easily one of the best and most competitive handicaps to be run at the Co Lough venue all winter and the percentage call is to side with CAROLINA JETSTREAM, largely due to her consistency.
Five times the daughter of Pinatubo has raced here and she’s yet to finish out of the first four and in her latest encounter she posted a smart speed figure when running out a gutsy winner.
The impressive part of her victory was the way she swatted away several challengers from the front and on the evidence of that display a return to a mile should hold no fears.
Just run out of the argument close home by Instant Appeal when the pair last met earlier in the campaign, Robson De Aguiar’s inmate has clearly improved since and a nice handy early pitch from her favourable draw can see her competitive throughout.
CAROLINA JETSTREAM – 1-point each-way@9-2 (four places)
